DBA Job Description

I'm wondering if anyone has a job description for a Database Administrator Position that they are willing to share.  We are about to start looking at filling that position and I need to come up with a job description to help push the process through quicker.  I have a general idea of what should be in it, but would like to see some examples for reference is anyone is willing to share.

    POSITION CONCEPT:

     

    Evaluate, develop and support database and system applications.  Identify flow processes to maximize utilization of output to support organizational objectives. Conceptualize long-term needs of managing database services.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

     

    Ø  Confer with executive management and business units to ascertain specific output requirements.

    Ø  Establish operating procedures and protocols for data entry standardization.

    Ø  Confer with data entry personnel to devise plans for obtaining and standardizing input data.

    Ø  Develop and manage output methodology including customized reporting services.

    Ø  Analyze alternative means of data management and select most feasible and economic method.

    Ø  Coordinate implementation of new data processing software including structure, security, functional capabilities, upgrades, training, and documentation with the support of IT staff.

    Ø  Facilitate integration of software systems to meet management objectives.

    Ø  Establish quality assurance within a test environment, making sure that data processing systems are free from defects and the data flow paths are correct.

    Ø  Assist in project planning and consult with internal customers on projects, new technologies and deadlines.

    Ø  Work with CIO to determine budget and resource allocations necessary to support database operations.

    Ø  Communicate with technical staff on system modifications, structure and development as appropriate.

    Ø  Serve as back-up for IT support staff when appropriate. 

    Ø  Assist the director in setting and achieving long-term objectives for data services.

     

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Professionally represent Ruth Eckerd Hall at all times.
    • Complete all other duties as assigned.

     

     

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

     

    Education:       

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred with emphasis or major in information technology. Course work in marketing and/or arts management is helpful.

     

    Experiences:                                                                                                                           

    ·         Five (5) years experience managing database services.

    ·         Five (5) years experience in software implementation and integration.

    ·         Experience with systems analysis.

    ·         Experience in supporting ticketing, fundraising, education and/or arts organization technology systems highly desirable.

    ·         Five (5) years of professional application development experience.

     

    Demonstrated Skills or Knowledge:                                                                                        

     

    ·         Comprehensive knowledge of database structures, business applications and reporting technologies, including SQL and Microsoft products.

    ·         Knowledge of system strategies to maximize efficiency.

    ·         Demonstrated commitment to the principles of project management and culture including flexibility.

    ·         Demonstrated commitment to the principles of teamwork and shared responsibility.

    ·         Understanding of marketing principles and general business practices.

    ·         Ability to write, speak and use images to clearly and persuasively communicate in technical and non-technical subjects with both technical and non-technical audiences.

    ·         Ability to develop, analyze, and apply technological solutions.

    ·         Ability to multi-task and meet simultaneous deadlines.

    ·         Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate people, tasks and projects for efficiency.

    ·         Ability to handle confidential conversation, correspondence and records.

    ·         Ability to relate to a diverse group of people including staff, board members, educators, students, community leaders and residents.

    ·         Ability to exercise a degree of judgment in setting up records, maintaining accurate figures and establishing order of importance.

    ·         Ability to operate basic office equipment such as copier, fax machine, telephone, computer and printers.

    ·         Ability to anticipate problems or to identify them before significant impact on service delivery, expenses or revenues.

    ·         Basic knowledge of ADA, safety regulations and fire codes as it relates to delivery of services.

     

    Physical Demands:

    ·         Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

    ·         Ability to operate a computer terminal.

    ·         Ability to operate basic office machines.

    ·         Ability to travel.

    ·         Ability to drive.

    ·         Ability to maintain good attendance is a condition of employment and a function of this position.

     

    Other:

    ·         Valid driver's license and safe driving record.

    ·         Ability to pass a level 2 security screening.
