Season setup by batch

Hello,

Does anyone out there have a custom way to setup a season by batch?  We have numerous performances, price types, modes of sale, etc. that are the same for mulitple performances and setting each up 1 by 1 can be tedious and error prone.  I'm just wondering if anyone has a custom script that would import multiple performances and populate the ancillary tables.  Then the Ticket Office could go into Tessitura and change the description and dates that are specific to that performance.

  • Hi Kjersten,

Would I be able to take a look at your script?  Sounds promising.

    Hi Stuart,

JCA wrote a custom process for us based off the Copy Performance procedure.  It uses an Excel spreadsheet to hold Performance Code plus a bunch of other information about the performance (date, time, etc... - basically anything from the Copy Performance screen).  Our DBA's then use the bulk copy procedure to load the performances into SQL and our Ticketing folks make any necessary tweaks afterward.  This has been a godsend since we have hundreds of performances a year to set up that are all variations on a few themes.

Great, I’ll experiment with it in Test.  Thanks!

    Hi Stuart

I've posted a copy of one version of the script in the perf_copy folder in my files  - here. There are other flavours that just operate on individual days of the week, or for other special type of perfs, etc but they're all variations of this one.

It requires perf codes to be constructable from a template (a mask) based on the month and day, which is what we do in order to have unique perf codes within the season, but you may need to re-construct that, depending on your own perf code logic. We never run a single season longer than a year, so that's enough to guarantee uniqueness.

It is kind of dangerous, so you should handle with care and test thoroughly, of course..

We always schedule it to run overnight, to make sure i,t's not going to interfere with live sales.

That sounds great.  I can tweak it to fit our needs.

    Hi Stuart
We have a script that we use to create a whole year's worth of guided tour 'performances' - there are several 'performances' set up every day of the year to hold our guided tours.
The script relies on someone creating a template performance, and then it duplicates that for a range of dates. It's fairly specialised for those unusual perfs, and it doesn't do everything (not holds, for example), but it does set up the framework, and then you can use Season Mgr etc to apply changes across the different ranges.
It's probably more of a starting point for you, rather than a solution, but we're happy to share if you're interested.
