Naming Conventions/documentation

Hi All,

I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has documentation on their naming conventions and wondering if you would be willing to share.

I'm looking for the best way to name Lists, Appeals, and Sources along with anything else that you have found to be useful.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi

We don't have specific documentation but it is mentioned in our Extractions How To guide. There is also mention of naming conventions in the part about promoting a list:

    Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

    1)     Fill in the Extraction name into the Description field, this should be formatted as follows: Your initials, a space, description, a space, mailing format

    e.g. SB Budapest Orch mailing

          SB Andras Schiff TMS

    Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

    2)     This time, select List in the top box. Name your list as you want it to appear in the customer’s record

    eg Chaka Khan cancellation TMS,

         Mar-Apr Agenda mailing

  • TJ Tasker presented at one of the conferences about source code nameing conventions and we found it to be useful.

Essentially we do this for Appeals:

YEAR + 2 Letter Dept Code + Appeal Name

    09MB Renewal 1

Then for sources we do the following:

2 Letter Dept Code + YEAR + Source Name

    MB09 Basic Members

You will notice that the format is reversed  on the source. This was done so that during gift entry or ticket entry, the source and or appeal can be sorted better, making it easier to find the correct source code.

For Lists, we do the same thing:

YEAR + 2 Letter Dept Code + 2 Letter User Initial + List Name

    09ITCM All Basic Members

    Hope this helps,

  • Hey, thanks for remembering that presentation!  I'm glad that it was useful.

I've posted two documents to my profile thta I have created on naming conventions.  I've actually been working on a third document which I will post shortly which outlines the way in which we name Appeals and Sources.  Things have changed slightly since I made that presentation two years ago.
