Setting up Sales Tax

Does anyone add sales tax to their ticket prices? We need to be able to break out the tax on the ticket. Tax amounts/percentages may be different for some performances, so I need to include this at the performance level. Are you using a special price type or a fee? How do you break this out on the web, etc if the amount isn't a standard calculation?

  • The Symphony here uses fees for Sales Tax.  The only issue we have run into is that the percentage calculation for fees can only handle 2 decimal points through Tessitura.  So if your sales tax is 7.583% you can only enter 7.78% in Tess.

In the past the box office has overcome this by altering the ticket price slightly to make the totals match up to what they wanted. If you are feeling adventurous, the database does store 4 decimal places for that value so your DBA could, potentially, make a manual update in the table itself.  But that could lead to other issues.

On the plus side, the Fees by Performance report does a great job of reporting on this for Finance.
