SSRS security-Sharepoint vs Tessi

Hi,

We are starting to create custom reports after previously using outside resources.  A Sharepoint site was created to manage custom reports but all reports are currently open to all domain users in Sharepoint security.  Is security managed in both Sharepoint and in Tessitura?  The documentation mentions several ways of controlling but describes passing user ID group to each report.   Is this the best way to go?

Thanks for helping us along,

Jeri

  • Security by default in SSRS is implemented using Windows Integrated Security.  Tessitura has its own security schema.  Passing the UserId or UserGroup to a report may be used for securing the data source (stored procedure or query) for control group security, but it does not apply to securing the report itself.  I suggest you look into setting up windows groups that mirror your Tessitura groups, assigning permissions to folders of reports on the Report Server.

The second thing to mention here is that Tessitura does not directly support running SSRS in Sharepoint-Integrated Mode, like it sounds you have here.  The structure of the Report Server is changed to a very different structure when installed in this manner, which does not lend well for direct integration using other software (like Tessitura).
