Blackout Dates on Resource Calendar/Schedule?

I have a support ticket open for this, but wanted to hear if anyone else has successfully done it. 

My boss wants me to add all the holidays we are closed for to both the Product Catalog and the Resource Calendar. Product Catalog was easy (just put the catalog text in the System Table). 

The Resource Calendar is proving more difficult. I basically want it to act the same way where my staff is locked out from even adding a schedule to that particular day. Otherwise my only other workaround is literally creating the schedule "CLOSED" on every resource that we have (and we've got roughly 30). 

Is it possible to create black-out dates? Or does anyone have a decent workaround?
