How does NSCAN know the difference between performances when scanning member cards?

So I just figured out how to allow members to use their cards to scan into a specific performance instead of just our General Admission performance. Now, the only issue is if both performances are happening simultaneously how does the NSCAN know the difference?

For example, to make it easier for our members, we would like them to be able to use their membership cards to gain entry into our Sunday Music Series concerts (which are during museum hours and are free to members, but are sold in as a separate performance). However, a member may come in on a Sunday only wishing to view the galleries (so our General Admission performance).

Will there be a notification on the NSCAN prompting our associates to choose which performance? Or will it just do it automatically? Or not at all (and will just lump them all into 1)?

  • Hi Chelsea! As described on this documentation topic, N-Scan will present the user with a dropdown and they will need to select the performance each time. It does not default to having one selected. If the entrance to both events is in the same place and you don't want to have to select a performance on each scan, I know some organizations have opted to use a second device for the secondary performance and leave the normal scanner configured just for admission.

I also wanted to point out (which you may already know) that member card scans do not affect performance capacity. If your concert series has a limited capacity that you might reach, you'll need a method of making sure the front desk doesn't oversell the paid tickets.
