We've had an uptick in resellers using stolen credit cards to purchase tickets. We've had chargebacks from the real owner of the credit card after the show has settled, leaving us with the cost of the tickets. We're pretty good at identifying these orders at this point, but it is taking a lot of staff time. We're wondering how other organizations are dealing with this problem. Has anyone implemented any protections for this type of situation? We have Worldpay and I'm reaching out to them as well. We've tried implementing a more restrictive AVS setting - but that leads to a lot of real customer complaints. It also doesn't appear to deter the use of stolen cards - I'm assuming they must have addresses as well as the card info. I've read about 3DS (payer authentication) - seems like that's what is needed. Does anyone use that?
We haven't had any chargebacks yet, but we DID just have a bit of a to-do with a reseller. The company apparently offers our productions and then when someone orders, they order tickets and then send them back to the patron (at something like 2.5x the cost). A patron called in confused because he had been sent his PAHT but they had another patron's name on it. Apparently either an employee of the reseller or a false identity. They have not responded to any of our attempts to contact them. In this case, we moved the credits from that account to his own as he needed to reschedule his performance.
