You learn something everyday and I just learned that I can't search on an Association. Is is true that Associations are not a searchable function? And aside from Aliases are there any other workarounds I haven't thought of? We are looking at how we set up Foundation and Corporate Accounts and thinking of using Associations to track trustees and employee which would work ideally in our model if we could search by Associations.

In Milwaukee we have a procedure set up that creates alias records for certain types of associations, thus allowing them to be searchable. You could probably adopt the same model.

We also use the alias field for searchable associations.
Another solution might be to create attributes for contact types and use a name as the value. For example, an attribute of "Primary Contact" might have the value of "John Smith." Then you could use the Attribute Search mechanism (probably with the "like" operator) to find the associated Foundation/Corporation record that contains this name as an attribute value.

Patrick,
We are looking at doing this at the Perot. Would you be willing to share out the script for your procedure?
Sadie
Hey Sadie - we deprecated the procedure back when we moved to v11 (as it was being used to create search aliases between parent & child, which households kind of eliminated the need for). However, let me see if our DBA still has the script somewhere. I'll let you know if I can find it. :)
Thanks Patrick,
We are using a combination of affiliation types for membership cards and being able to search on theme without double entry would be great.
