batch numbering

Our CFO has a question:

Daily posting activity is usually assigned a sequential posting number. It seems that each day our posting numbers jump – with sometimes one, two or three blank posts in between. Do you know why this is? Is this something the users are doing?

  • The most likely reason is the folks posting are “testing” --doing a preliminary posting to check the GLs and transactions – if that posting is not accepted the posting number is discarded by the system.   If they don’t mean to do a “test”  it may be a matter of training to let those staff members.

  • Rich,

When users post batches in Tessitura, they sometimes want to look at the posting before posting it to the G-L.  If they do this and then don’t post the batches to the G-L, a posting number is still assigned, but then it is not the final posting number.  As a result, some of the numbers are skipped.

    Hope this helps,

    Cheryl
