Data Import Utility - New Constituents and Activities

We need to import new constituents into Tessi from another program (i.e. CampMinder) and want to tag them as being part of a certain education program (i.e. our GRAMMY Camp students, and our GRAMMY Camp Parents). Additionally, we also want to import in attendance to some of our public programs where tickets are sold through a different ticketing system (i.e. Universe). For the public programs, there are current constituents (Museum members for example) that purchased tickets and we want to ensure we are reflecting that activity in Tessi for them.  And then of course, if it's a new constituent, we would want to import in their information as well as the program they attended.

My coordinator has been working on trying to figure out the data import utility, and is struggling with how to format the template or workbook with this data that we want to import in.  It's taken a large amount of time thus far, and we don't seem to be getting the whole process of how to do this, and we are at a point where we need to get this data entered ASAP as we a few huge projects we need to use this data for and we need to have it in Tessi.   We don't have staff on hand that are skilled in coding or a high level of data/tech type of stuff, so if anyone has experience on the process and how to set up these files for importing, I would greatly appreciate it.  I would be extremely grateful for anyone who is willing to hop on a zoom or any sort of virtual meeting to visualize the process, and to be our north star!!!

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

  • Hey Meredith,

I'm a little over committed at the moment so apologies if it takes a while to respond but if you don't get someone in your timezone and need a had I could jump on a call.  There are a few tips and tricks with regards to imports and I suggest starting on a small (5 line ?) sample set first until you know that you are getting somewhere.  You shouldn't need any coding exp but your column heading will need to match your xml file (which sounds more technical than it really is).  Formatting of columns can be another gotcha especially when you don't have anything to compare it to.

    Goodluck,

    H
