Starting to look at sql server monitoring tools, any recommendations?
Thanks,
Marty
Hi Marty,
Spiceworks.com has some free tools, I really like Quest Software but there is a cost associated: http://www.quest.com/sql-server/
We use a tool called DB Audit for PCI compliance which monitors a lot of things beyond PCI: http://www.softtreetech.com/dbaudit/
Thanks Naomi! I will take a look at Quest.
I'll second the recommendation for quest software. We use Spotlight on SQL Server and are happy with it. I've also got it configured to let me know if the seat server, report server or credit card server are down. When we purchased it, Quest gave us a non-profit discount..
I used an idera monitoring tool at my last job. It worked ok but sometimes the timing of the alerts seemed off.

Thanks John, I have a demo this week with Idera. With Spotlight, Is that for Sql Server Enterprise only? Looking at their website, that's the impression I got from it.
No it's for any version of SQL besides SQL 7. We will be getting here and I currently have a demo running on all my SQL boxes ranging from SQL 2000 Standard to 2008 Enterprise. I love that and the Capacity Manager.
