Explaining Tessitura Versions

**we are self-hosted**

I need to explain to someone what all the numbers mean in version 15.0.13. I know/think that 15 is the main build, and I know/think the the 13 is service pack, but what is the 0? Likewise, what is the 1 in version 15.1.14??

Thanks,

  • Ashley,

15.0 and 15.1 are really different versions. When 15.1 came out, it was considered a version upgrade from 15.0, and included some new functionality not available in 15.0.

Similar to Windows 8.0 and 8.1 – completely different versions with patches and updates but 8.1 had new features and functionality that don’t exist in v8.0.

    Hope that helps 😊

  • Hi Ashley,

With our products we follow the "Major.Minor.Patch (service pack)" versioning scheme. So in the version 15.1.14:

15: Major version: This is where breaking changes, and large scale new features would be implemented. These releases are required to be applied within a specific time frame. Typically we ship a major release every 1-2 years.

1: Minor version: A midpoint release that builds on a Major version. It can include breaking changes and larger new features as well, but they typically build on the previous release. If a major version has a minor version released, it is typically a midpoint before the next major release. A major version doesn't always have an associated minor release, and many times they are not required releases.

14: Patch (we call these Service Packs): An incremental release that can contain small features and defect fixes. We avoid breaking changes in Service Packs, and typically release them more often. These are intended to be low-risk, easily applied updates to the application that can be applied with little effort. Many members that use our Hosting Services apply service packs automatically each time they are released.

    Thanks,
