Understanding Custom Constituent Headers vs Flex Headers

** we are self-hosted **

I recently had to add a field to our Philanthropy department's constituent header which was created long before my time as DBA here at SLSO. The header I edited was an ld object in Informaker, but I found a pdf (02_16_Popup_Flex_Headers) on this site that said flex headers don't require Informaker. I have come to the realization that I don't understand the different between flex headers and that custom object I edited. My assumption is that the guy who had my job before me created that ld object before flex headers were a thing in Tessitura. Can someone help me make sense of this based on your knowledge of flex headers and what you do at your organization?

  • That's correct.  Originally you created "custom" headers, using Infobreaker, but later the "flex" header system was created to simplify header changes.  I think we've gotten rid of all of our custom headers in favor of flex headers at this point, but there are a few things I believe you can't do with a flex header (images maybe?).
