We have our merge proc running 3 times a week - Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. I have the Duplicate Merge Report scheduled to run each of those days to let our team know about any of the merges that failed to merge so that they can be set up again.
This schedule was working great until about a month ago (for about a year) and then it started failing with a reason "There was an error processing report snapshot for request Id 654166. The report response was null." We found a few forum posts with info on places to look but it turned up nothing. We then thought that perhaps the merge proc was taking too long and the report was ran too early, even though the proc runs at 3:30am for less than 5 minutes and the report wasn't scheduled to run until 8am.
When we run the report manually - no problems! So, we try rescheduling the report to run later in the day - 9:30am. The new schedule runs great for about a week and then starts failing for the very same reason - but only one day out of 3 (they are 3 individual schedules).
We are on Version 15.0.5. I've searched the defect list for anything on SSRS scheduled reports or the Duplicate Merge Report but can't find anything. Does anyone have any ideas?
You might check the SQL Server Agent logs to see how long the merge process it's actually running, and also the Report Server logs to see if other Merge Reports are running at the same time.
Thanks Gawain. I had originally thought that the merge proc was taking a long time but after looking at the logs, it was only taking a short time to run and we were giving well over 5 hours between the job and the report schedule. This is the only Merge report that we run.
Hey Michele - did you ever find the cause/solution for this? I have a report that's throwing the same, "report response was null" message when I schedule it. Runs fine otherwise. - Andy
I too have a report giving that error! I made a separate post about it this morning, but since I hadn't received a reply I came back here to see if I could figure something out.
