ResourceSpace DAMs integration?

We use ResourceSpace (http://www.resourcespace.com) as our Digital Asset Management system. We would like to explore the idea of creating an integration between this system and Tessitura. The goal would be to use the Tessitura REST API to create a lookup on data entry forms in ResourceSpace that would allow ResourceSpace users to quickly tag photos with the names/constituent IDs of constituents, and, conversely, allow a custom screen integration in Tessitura to allow viewers of a constituent record to quickly see photos and other resources associated with the record they're viewing.

For us, the biggest payoff of this would be to make it easier for users to take a generic photoshoot of an event or program (IE 100 photos that all just say "2019 Gala") and specifically flag the people that appear in them so to be used for future reference and other purposes, allowing searchability and cross linking between the two systems.

I've had a preliminary conversation with Montala, the company that does most of the (open source) development on ResourceSpace, and they've indicated that they could take on this project if we can fund it. Once developed, it would become available as part of the core ResourceSpace build going forward.

I'm curious whether there are other Tessitura/ResourceSpace shops out there that might be willing to consider splitting the cost of making this happen.

Please feel free to respond here or to reach out to me directly at 617-994-5948 or ddwiggins@historicnewengland.org if you'd like to discuss.

  • Hi, Debra,

This effort has not really moved forward - COVID and whatnot bumped it down our priority list, and so far I haven't found enough interest in shared development to make it a slam dunk. That said, as we finish up some big systems implementations later this year, I suspect we may circle back around to questions of how to get the various systems to play more nicely with each other. (We are also implementing a finance/ERP platform this year, and may begin tracking project numbers there - which would create a similar integration opportunity to allow, for example, our property care team to attach photos to the projects they went with - useful for them but also for things like grant documentation.)

That said, stepping back to your bigger question, we've used ResourceSpace since its early days in 2008-2009, and remain fairly happy with it. Like any long running software project it has a few creaky bits to it, but overall it is an extremely flexible and quite cost effective DAMs solution that fits well into our overall environment. We now have somewhere north of 420,000 resources stored in it, including photos, video, audio, PDF scans, etc. And it sits behind a bunch of custom code to deliver images to our collections access website (https://www.historicnewengland.org/explore/collections-access/ ) and some of the features of our virtual museum experiences. ( https://www.historicnewengland.org/digital-visitor-experience/ )

I've also consulted with a a few other museums that have implemented it over the years.

Happy to answer specific questions if it's useful.
