Connecting to RAMP from a Mac

Greetings,

Has anyone had recent success connecting to RAMP from a Mac desktop?  I trying the latest versions of Parallels and VMWare Fusion but am having the hardest time getting the Tess screen to show properly (typically only a portion of the Tess window will display).  It seems I've tried every combination of X2, virtual Windows and Mac desktop setting and only every once in a while (one out of ten attempts) will I get a proper full Tessitura screen.

Is RAMP working for you?  What is your Mac desktop solution?

Thanks,

Warren Evans

I believe I've found the solution, at least for this environment.  I've copied the 2X icons onto my desktop and unchecked the 'Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution' found under the shortcut's Compatibility Properties.  The software now runs fine and I'm able to fine tune my virtual screen appearance using a combination of adjusting my virtual desktop screen properties and enabling/disabling 2X's Connection Properties, Advanced Settings, Enable Desktop smart-sizing.

    Hi Warren,

We use Parallels to connect to RAMP on Macs here.  If you're getting it to work directly on a Mac, I'd love to chat more about your experiences with it!

    Thanks,

  • I was browsing the Mac app store, and saw that 2X had a new client available (ver. 10.5.1377), and after some simple configuration, I can get into Tessitura natively from the Mac for the first time.  I'm now working on getting basic office printers to work, and then I'll attempt ticketing.

Of course, I don't know if any of this is officially supported.

  • Hi Aaron,  we are currently in the testing phase for 2-factor authentication requirements for the hosted environment and so far so good depending on what version of the Mac OS you are running.  One area that is not supported are ticket printers, so while utilizing the macintosh client for general Tessitura components appears to be working as expected, it is not possible to do so in the box office without some form of PC Emulation software installed for ticket printing purposes.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask the RAMP team but as always PC emulation will guarantee success regardless of the Mac OS or printer type you wish to utilize.

  • Thanks Mary!  Our box office terminals are PCs, so we're good there.  It's just nice to be able to have direct access now to Tessitura for administrative purposes for several users (including me) that have a Mac for their workstation.  I'm still trying to get basic document printing to work, but Tessitura doesn't see my local printer.  It can see 2X virtual printing, but then it says the 2X client does not support this feature.  No worries, exporting PDFs on the rare occasions that I do print a document are suitable!

  • There are also 2X clients for iPhone and iPad. On a lark, I tried configuring them with the RAMP settings, and we could see Tess. We also didn't try any printing, but it was a fun little exercise.

It would have to be the most desperate of circumstances for us to actually use it. Any keyboard-heavy remote desktop would have issues. But it's not bad to have one more (unsupported) tool in the shed.

  • Hi everyone,

Apologies for digging this thread up from the grave, but I've got an issue with 2x on OS X (10.8.4) and wondering whether anyone else has come across it.

I can log in fine and access the Tessitura app, however if I flick away to another application (non-2x) and then try and get back to the Tessitura app, my system won't let me make the window "active" ie - the taskbar of the app is greyed out and if I try and click it it won't come back in focus. If I try and open the Tessitura app from the 2x window again it doesn't work, either. My only solution is to quit 2x completely and then log back in.

Curiously, when I do that (and if I've tried to open Tessitura again through 2x), when it does load up I get the error message stating that I'm trying to log in multiple times.

Anyone had this experience before? Any solutions?

    Thanks

  • I don't know if this is the solution to your problem, but I've encountered a similar issue in the past.  To me it sounds like the application window is running but is off screen.  Do a shift-right click on the running application in the taskbar and choose "Maximize", does that bring the screen back?  If so, then you'll need to shift-right click on the application in the taskbar and choose "Move" to try and move it back on to the screen.  You can also try right clicking on the taskbar and choose "cascade windows" to bring it back to the screen as well.  Hope this helps.
