We are interviewing for a Database Analyst position. I am wondering if anyone has great questions related to the database skills they would be willing to share. I am finding it difficult since I do not have the knowledge of the skills we are requiring i.e. T-SQL, SSMS, etc.
Thank you!
Denise
You might consider not hiring based on existing database skills at all. You know, if the position doesn't report to a technical manager, then what you're really looking for is a CTO skillset because they will need the ability to make big picture decisions from a thorough understanding of the technical details. A technology generalist skillset (where learning new things is a key skill) would be useful too.
And to be honest, if I was interviewing with a company and the interviewer spent time asking me prescribed technical questions that they didn't understand, I'd probably run the other way. If you need a validation of technical skills, I would look into third party services or consulting that specialize in this instead of trying to do it yourself without the expertise.
I hope this doesn't sound harsh! Hiring is really hard and I don't by any means consider myself qualified to really know what I'm talking about on the topic.
