Windows 7?

Our elderly credit card and seat servers are ready for retirement, after 6 years of faithful service. Since any replacement machine would come with Windows 7, has anybody run into any issues running these apps and services on Windows 7 machines?

Thanks,

  • I know that with Transcend there were issues runnign the client application in Vista.  I am not sure if that is still an issue.

  • Thanks, Jon.  Next question: has anyone virtualized the credit card, seat and report servers?  If so, how did that work?

  • Hi, Jeanne,

We have all of our servers, including credit card, seat server, etc, virtualized with VMware ESX. All work as expected.

  • Thanks, Morgan.

For the edification of the group: I heard from Scott Baney at Intrix who told me that TranScend is not yet certified for Windows 7, but that they hope to have it so by mid-year.

  • In windows 7 you might be able to run it in the XP mode.

  • We are currently running all of our Tess servers (SQL, CC, Seat, Report, Terminal Server, etc) on Windows 2008 R2 (the server equivalent of Windows 7) and all virtualized on Hyper-V. Overhaul the experience has been pretty good. The Transcend DB component will successfully install and run so long as you modify the permissions on the ITI_Transcend folder in %ProgramFiles(x86)% to grant the SQL System Acct modify permissions.

On a side note, one issue we have encountered is 2008 R2 is only available in 64-bit, which presents some problems since that means our Terminal Server (which runs the Tess Client for all of our Windows 7 desktops) is now 64bit as well. Apparently there are some bugs in the Tess Client on 64 bit machines, one of the more serious involves the Ticket Order screen and package line items which can cause the client to freeze if you do not press tab after entering a quantity.
