I am wondering how I can output the address selected on an affiliation record in a List/Extraction when the affiliation is what adds the constituent record to the List.
Here is an example - We have an affiliation type named "Primary Contact". Primary contacts of an organization/business are affiliated to an organization record. In a List or Extraction I want to add "primary contact" affiliated records when the organization record is included. Herein lies the issue: The affiliated records are added to the List but with the address on the individual record (usually a home address).
Seems like there must be a way to do this otherwise what is the purpose of the address selection on the affiliation record?
Thoughts?
Hi Todd,
The address selected on an affiliation record is automatically returned by Extraction Sets when the constituent was added the results through the Advanced Relationship Options. The affiliation address is not returned if the criteria in a criteria set select a constituent directly (i.e. if you add criteria that select a constituent based on an affiliation). Affiliation addresses are also not returned by output sets used with lists.
To sum up, you have to use an Extraction and you have to add the affiliates with the Advanced Relationship Options. Here's a link to the Affiliations help topic, which details this info: https://www.tessituranetwork.com/Help_System_v150/Content/Relationships/Adding%20and%20Editing%20Affiliations.htm

Kevin,
Thanks for the response. I was quite sure that was how it was supposed to work but that method was not working for our users. Turns out after digging a little deeper it was a control group issue that was causing it to not work properly in Extractions. It's been awhile since I messed with this and had forgotten that it did not work in Lists. What is the logic behind the two methods exhibiting different behavior?

The affiliation address functionality was added when the Communications Management functionality was added to extraction sets, in other words, it was new functionality added when other new functionality was being added. At the time no work was being done on lists and output sets. When the lists and output sets overhaul came along in v14, which would have presented an opportunity to add the same affiliation address functionality to lists at that time, it was simply overlooked. I can share, though, that asking the development team about how to answer your question served as a good reminder, and the affiliation address functionality has been added to output sets for v15.1.
Thanks,
Kevin
This is great news that the affiliation address functionality is being added to Output Sets. We use affiliations heavily for schools, foundations, etc and this will make our Development and Education departments very happy.
Hi Kevin - that's great news. I raised this functionality discrepancy as a query not that long ago, so it's great to hear that the solution is so close to being live.
best wishes
Alison
We're in v15.1. We get the desired affiliate address when using List Manager, but not when using Extractions. Do you have have any insight on this?Todd, Do you recall the control group setting that resolved the issue for you?
