Wifi and Scanners

We’ve been having issues with our MC40 scanners in that their wifi is “sticky” and hangs onto the first Access Point they connect to, even if they’re moved to a location with a closer AP, so signal drops and we lose connection. Rebooting the devices in their final location seems to help but occasionally a device is very sticky and still finds its former AP, as long as it is viewable on the network.

Has anybody else run into this issue, and if so, how did you resolve it? It’s becoming a source of frustration for our FOH folks.

Thanks,

  • If the unit knows both wifi password(s) or there is no password for the wifi (e.g. free public wifi), you will have the issue you are asking about.

We simply tell our staff to check which wifi network the unit is on BEFORE you start the NScan app. If it is not on the correct wifi, change it.

    Settings icon - Wifi

You may have to train your staff to manually change the wifi based on where they are situated.

One more thing, when they go to change the wifi, teach them to NOT hit forget! If they hit forget, the unit will forget all of the wifi settings for that specific network (e.g. Password, whether the network is static or dynamic, DNS1, DNS2, etc...). Unless, you actually do want the unit to forget the network.
