Tokenization on Vantiv/Worldpay and Later Switching Gateways?

Hi All,

We are on Vantiv/Worldpay and about to proceed with a tokenization effort. Before we do that, we are wondering about how this might impact us down the road if for some reason we wanted to switch to a new provider.

That leads to a couple of key questions:

- If we tokenize with Vantiv, how difficult/expensive is it to transition to a different gateway later on

- If we switch to Payment Express, is the transition difficult and are the fees more or less (now and over time)

If anyone has information, insights, or thoughts on this, I'd love to hear them!

Thanks,

Tom

  • Hi Tom,

We just had a conversation with Tessitura about gateways and things last week. We requested the conversation to better understand options for account updater services. (If you're interested, we learned that Vantiv's account updater service will not work with Tessitura at this point, and Payment Express does not offer an account updater service at all.) We are with Vantiv and are currently tokenizing cards for our auto-renew membership program. To answer your questions

    1) Vantiv/Worldpay offers a service to transfer tokens to be re-encrypted by a new vendor so doable. Cost associated and will depend on volume but it wasn't a huge cost.

    2) Payment Express does not currently offer a service to transfer tokens at this point so that should be a consideration. Switching to PE may require you to purchase new cc terminals as each vendor supports specific models.

  • Thank you Susie! This is very helpful!
