PDF has no pages

Hi Folks,

We recently had an issue where some (not all) scheduled reports (mix of SSRS and Info maker) that appeared in the reports server queue / logs as having successfully run - never arrived at any of the emails set up within the schedule. We recently upgraded to V14.1.6

A restart of the reports server and a change in T_defaults (EMAIL_REPORT_FILE_TIMEOUT increased from 3-10) managed to restore the missing schedules as in they are generating again and appear to work without having to drop and recreate the affected schedules (thank you forums for that lil tip).

But now we are seeing an error when opening the PDF attachment - There was an error opening this document. The file can not be opened because it has no pages.

This is only happening to scheduled reports - the same reports create a PDF when generated manually from Reports & Utilities.

Has anyone else come up against this? Are the drivers out of date (I've done a quick check and they appear fine, I also checked PVBM folder etc and can see nothing amiss)

I see another TASK ticket in my future but wanted to check with the hive mind in case I've overlooked something important

Thanks in advance

Louise

  • Can you isolate the current "no pages" PDF issue to affect only InfoMaker or SSRS reports? They use entirely different mechanisms for generating PDFs -- SSRS uses a Microsoft library, whereas InfoMaker uses Windows print services to generate a PostScript file which is then fed to the Ghostscript library for conversion.

  • Hi Nick,

Thanks for sending me back to check. They are all infomaker reports - rule 1 check the basics.... DOH.

I was getting thrown by one of the names of the schedule being the same as an actual SSRS report but when I checked the report set up it is actually the InfoMaker report that has been scheduled.
I've read about PDF not printing on forums before so will take a look - I'll delete and readd the Sybase DataWindows PS from the reports server and install a new PDF printer with up to date drivers and give it that name - fingers crossed that works.
    Thanks
    Louise
  • You might also try restarting the Print Spooler service on the machine running your Tessitura Report Server. That has affected us before, though I can't remember exactly in what way.

  • Hi Nick,

Thanks for this but I'm still having no luck - I'm pretty sure Tessi hates me!

    So far I've...

Checked the C/ PVBM on the reports server - they had Driver and GS folders etc - all looked normal - they were not syncing from the main server PBVM folder but I manually copied the files across - if you can believe it I only recently found out we are still using imp deploy to sync files - its on my list of outdated things to fix up...

I've checked permissions for the windows account used to log onto the reports server - they have full access to C/PVBM and are in the AD Tessi user group that have access to the main PVBM folder that everyone syncs from -  (my next step will be to add them as a full sys admin, if that works I'm dusting my fingerprints off and walking away)

I've removed and readded the Sybase Datawindow PS printer ... port was print to file - I used a HP colour laser jet PS driver (internal notes said that was best - but I also tried an up to date Ghostsript driver and the one found in the Gs7.05 folder - no luck)

I've downloaded the most up to date acrobat reader on the print server, restarted the print spooler service and the actual server itself (its a VM)

    and.... still no joy.

I can not save a pdf report from within the client on the actual server either. I was able to run the report and print to PDF but not save the report as a PDF which is what I gather the report server tries to do.

Any tips on what might be wrong or where I should go with this next.

    Thanks in advance

    Lou

  • Try BioPDF.. (http://biopdf.com/). The download is free and when finished, rename the new printer to Sybase Datawindow PS.
