Ticket Scanning Research/Survey

Hi all, I am trying to gather some data on ticket scanning to write a report for my management team. The objective is to satisfy ourselves that we made a good investment and also to determine where we are sitting in the satisfaction matrix. I am looking for some general comments like some statistics on number of tickets scanned before curtain; which scanning application, scanners and wireless routers/other wireless devices you are using; if you have faced any major issue, especially anything related to wireless connectivity, and if yes how did you resolve it; etc. If any of you have been using any other application or anything other than Wi-Fi for wireless networking, I would love to hear about that too.

We have been using NScan application since 2007 for our ticket scanning. Currently we have 10 scanners (8 Symbol MC50, 1 MC70 and 1 MC55) and 4 NetGear Wireless Routers. On an average we end up scanning 90-95% ticket before show starts. But occasionally we have some issues with our wireless connectivity. For some mysterious reason the scanners can’t always maintain a persistent connection to the wireless routers which sometimes creates inconveniences for the ushers especially when hundreds of patrons breathe on their necks to get into the venue at the last moment. This occasional problem is offsetting other good things happening from the scanners. We did not have this problem initially and I don’t remember any specific changes into the network that could trigger it. We tested out different option. But the result is inconsistent. We are operating in a rented venue. So there is a practical limitation about how much we can do about it. Other than this everything else is going very smoothly for us. I would love to hear your experience too.

You can write to me directly at mfaruqe@national.ballet.ca if you want. Advance thanks for sharing your experience or for any other advice/help.

Best,

Mo
