Auditing Payment Card Deletion

Is there any kind of audit trail for this?  Our transaction process or was going to charge a card recently put on an account for a pledge payment, and found it missing.  Now, we had just run the purge utility, but the card had been added a month prior (well inside our "keep" window), and had been used at that time.

It's hypothetically possible that someone else deleted it manually.

Is there any way to know?  I really wish the card purge utility would list the cards it was purging, or that there was something in the audit trail, but there appears to be no options for either.
