TNEW Upgrade Planning

Hello!

We are looking at upgrading from TNEW v6 to TNEW v7 by the end of the year.  It's my job to implement the upgrade - which is something I have never done before (always on an upgrade team, but never the leader of the team!).   I'm a teensy bit overwhelmed. Especially since this is my practice run before we upgrade from v12.5.1 to v15 down the road.

Does anyone have any project managing guidance - perhaps a project/implementation plan template or something  - that you'd be willing to share?

Thank you in advance!

  • We're just going through this here.  We happen to have two TNEW sites.  Our main site uses most TNEW functionality, and thus won't be able to migrate until next year, but our secondary site is more simple, so we're beginning transition on it right now.

We have a small core of users who are very familiar with TNEW v6 configuration and management, and we all are in the process of learning about v7 while we do the transition.  What we have done to date is gather for working meetings where we have our Test instance of TNEW in v7 preview mode, and we walk through our regular site side-by-side with the preview site and the TNEW documentation site-map.  We have one person taking notes and we each look for differences and help in looking up configuration options and other documentation to learn what we have to do to get the site to behave in the way that we want, what the differences in workflow are between the old and the new, how styling has changed and how to respond, etc.

The notes from this will then become our punch sheet for doing the live configuration.

We've gone through maybe 3-4 of these 1-2 hour sessions so far and feel like we have it sorted out enough that our next step will working in preview mode in Live (we are also moving into a major down period for that site).

But this site is simple: we currently do not do donations, gift certificates, packages or even non-standard performances on the site.  We do have one customization that runs on that site (vs. about 7 on our primary site), but it's a simple one, and seems unaffected by the upgrade.

    Hope that helps!
