Updating and importing phone numbers in bulk

We have recently used a outside vendor to check the phone numbers in our database and now I have an excel list of 15,000 records with verified and updated phone numbers and phone types. I understand there is no standard utility to do this, and we certainly can't update them manually. I thought I'd ask to see if anyone out there in Tessitura land, has done this kind of a thing before? And how?

Thanks, Ida

  • Ida,

Do check out the NOCA utility.  If I remember correctly it has the ability to import phone numbers as well as updated postal addresses.  Here are some notes from the documentation.

"The constituent data exported by the utility can be limited based on constituent ID, country, address type, a list, and/or constituencies. Phone numbers can be included in the export for phone append services, which will verify a phone number for an address or look up a phone number for an address if one is not currently on file.

When the updated data is imported back into Tessitura and processed, those addresses for which changes were found are updated. If the vendor returns standardized address data for valid addresses, the standardized data changes are applied to the valid addresses. Addresses that are identified as not valid and for which no updates are found are marked so that they are not included in future exports and can be excluded from lists and extractions. If phone append data is included in the import, changed phone numbers will be updated, new phone numbers added, and invalid phone numbers can be deleted."

It might take some work to reformat your data to meet the minimum NCOA data import requirements.  You might want to compare the cost of having the data imported by Tessitura Consulting, vs the cost to have the append done from scratch by Zeta Interactive in the correct format for importing by the NCOA utility.

As always test before trying to do any of this on your live system.
