Okay maybe not magic. But I can't figure out how it happened.
One of our development users was spending her afternoon about a week ago entering donations. She does it all the time and has for over a year. She's super detail oriented and doesn't do silly things often. But on this particular day one of our existing appeals was renamed from "19 Subscription Renewals" to "18 web donations". The last updated info on the appeal was this particular employee during the afternoon she was entering donations. There are a few things wrong with this scenario:
- She doesn't remember even going into the Appeal setup module at all that day (yes, she does have access because on occasion she builds new Appeals)- Even if she did, it's very unlikely she would have made that change- The formatting of the new appeal name is very unusual - the lower case letters are not seen anywhere else in Tess and not a common way that this employee would enter things
I've checked with her several times on the matter. She has no idea how it happened. She has not lent out her username/password to anyone and we enforce secure passwords here so it's unlikely someone did this from her account without her knowledge. Even if someone managed to get into her account, I don't understand what they would want to accomplish by changing an appeal name that can easily be changed back.
So if I go with the assumption that this was changed by her (based on the info I have, that's all I can do) and it wasn't a conscious change that she intentionally made and she didn't make the change from the Appeal setup, how could this have happened? Is there any possible way that this could have been changed from the contribution entry screen?
Is this the end of the world? Absolutely not. There are far more concerning things that could have been changed without anyone realizing it. But it's still something I'd like to get to the bottom of if I can.
Any advice on debunking this?
Thanks!
