TC51 Lock

Hi everyone!

We just got our new TC51s in and are excited for their use. We'd been testing one before we made the investment to move away from the Motorola MC55s. My question is, with the Motorola units, we had used the AppCenter to lock out any access to the scanner settings or other applications so our Ticket Scanner volunteers couldn't go in and modify. Is there a lock application or setting on the Andriod TC51s that can be installed/utilized to lock them so only the nScan application can be used?

Thanks!

  • We have used Enterprise Home Screen to lock the TC51's we have been testing with before we move away from the MC75's and it works well for us.

  • Seconded.  We got some new TC51s this summer, and use Enterprise Home Screen to lock them, and it works quite well.  Though make sure you do not have fat fingers that accidentally type in the wrong password before you set that as the default for home screen otherwise you would have to do a factory reset on the device (I had to waste a fair bit of time doing that for one device, but I only have myself to blame).

Thanks John and Caryl. I finally was able to download it and install it this afternoon but I can't figure out how to restrict it from allowing the user to go exit the actual EHS homescreen and get back into the Launcher (so when in the EHS application, they can click the square in the bottom right corner and essentially quit the app).

    Any suggestions?

  • You have to go to the device settings and set the EHS homescreen as the "default homescreen app" while you are in the Admin mode.  Then log out of Admin mode and it should load the EHS homesceen when you hit the homescreen button.  I do not have the devices in front of me right now, so the exact names might be slightly different, but that is the basic approach.  If it offers both options, I think you can also just click "always use EHS", too.  This is the equivalent of it asking you which browser you want to use by default, you are just doing that for the homescreen button; sort of just redirecting the system.

    Does that help any?
