Trouble With Printer "Sticking"

With our open office we have laptops to be able to be nimble with their usage. One of our box office window has to use a network connection to a printer through one specific computer. The path looks like this --> \\T3BOXRZM.steppenwolf.org\BocaUpstairs to get at that printer from my computer. I'm having trouble getting the printer to "stick" in my preferences which means that I have to choose the printer each time I print something. I can print, just have to jump through an extra hoop to make it happen. This is a small issue, but is there anyone out there that knows how you can get a printer to stick? Documentation that was sent to our IT about this issue previously doesn't work.

  • I have discovered here that the local ini file where the printer preference is saved was under Program Files which as we have UAC turned on meant that you needed to be an Administrator of the computer in order to change it, which meant the printer didn't stick between sessions.

Luckily for me most machines print to a single printer so I was able to change the file on those machines as the Admin and the preference was then correct for each use on the machine.
