Changing dropdown selection in SSRS report doesn't change

I could've sworn I read something about this before but can't seem to find reference to it... Has anyone experienced this/remember what the cause is?

Scenario: User runs SSRS report, picks value from dropdown for parameter, report runs, is useful, happy user. User changes selection from dropdown. Clicks view report. Report seems to refresh, but displays data for the first dropdown selection, not New Selection, even though New Selection is visibly selected from the dropdown. Report displays original selection both in terms of displaying parameters selected, and the data itself. User runs said SSRS report from both Tessitura and IE. Same problem. Unhappy user. Calls IT staff. IT staff runs said report from within Tessitura and in IE (same version), changes dropdown selection and sees report change to reflect the new selection. Is muddled. Goes to Unhappy User's workstation, reproduces problem as described via phone. Clicks refresh. Report changes to reflect New Selection. Happy user. Tries Third Selection; clicks view report, again no change; clicks refresh, report refreshes to reflect Third Selection. IT Staff returns to own desk. Tries report again to exclude possibility of Gaslight. Does not need to click refresh, only View Report. User tries newly discovered Refresh solution. Works once. Changes dropdown selection again. Clicks view report and then refresh. Report does not change (save for timestamp on the report run time). It Staff still muddled.

I'm guessing one of us has a windows update that either fixes it or causes it?

  • Unfortunately no. I'm familiar with that one. We've done that fix to all PCs here. When I've experienced that issue, the selection doesn't actually select, so the report (presuming the parameter is required) won't run.

This problem is slightly different. The selection selects, the report runs for the selection. And if you then change the selection, it appears to take the selection (which is not the case with the other bug), and the report will rerun, but as if the selection had not changed.

  • Take a look at this:

Depending on what you are trying to do, report caching may be causing SSRS to use a cached dataset.  This shouldn’t be happening if there are changes to the parameter values (a new dataset would be generated), but without seeing the specific issues in your report this is my best assumption.  There may also be some level of IIS caching going on here.
