Hi all,
Sort of an odd question here that doesn't quite fit on the "technical" board, but that fit worse on the others.
We're considering running N-Scan at a remote location where we won't have control over the wireless. It may not actually be unencrypted, but for simplicity, consider that it is. The N-Scan scanners only talk to the api over http, so the api calls are always unencrypted.
The information being sent is:
- Ticket holder's name and constituent/N-Scan ID.
- Details of the ticket.
- Details regarding ticket holder's status with our theater (membership, etc.)
- Any notes placed on the ticket.
Do you think this is enough personally identifiable information being sent unencrypted that we should nix the use of N-Scan in this situation? Has your organization faced a similar situation? Do you have any advice or bright ideas?
Thanks,
Ian
Hi Ian, we had a similar situation when we had our last year gala in an external venue. We used a high-speed mobile internet hub with a static IP. We put that IP in safe list to communicate with our N-Scan web service. We did not use the venue provided WiFi.
Hope this helps.
