Surface Pro 4??

Anyone tried using a Surface Pro as a fully functioning ticketing station with Tessitura (2x/RAMP for us), EMV Reader, Boca, and cash drawer?  We are kicking this idea around and would welcome any tips or experience.

My first deal breaker would be the fact that there is only 1 usb port, but there appears to be a solution to that here:

I'm just not sure if simply adding more ports in this fashion would allow all of the peripheries to work.

Mainly we are looking for a smaller, more portable device that one could quickly break down and secure in a drawer in locations where the public will be wandering by an unattended ticketing desk.

Thanks!

    Hi Jason

There are lot of other options for small hybrid/convertible devices now that might suit your uses better than the Surfaces - from people like HP or Lenovo, just for a couple.

They're not generally as super-light as the Surface Pro, but if you're just wanting to keep it securely in a drawer rather than carry it around in your bag, that's probably not a factor - and they generally have more connectivity options built-in, like multiple USB ports.

  • Great. Thanks Ken. We'll take a look at those as well.

We have a Surface Pro set up temporarily. It's not the favorite of the staff due to reduced screen size and we will likely not continue to use it.  We used the additional ports of a docking station. Happy to answer questions! Functionally getting it set up was similar to setting up any other new computer.
