Quick Question re:Constituent Import Utility

I'm just testing out the Constituent Import utility in advance of a large import of Organisation-style constituent records... any idea why it would put the text for street1 in speech marks? street2 and all other areas are going in as normal.

I've never had this issue before, but have only imported on Individual style constituent records, not Organisations. Can't see what would cause this to be added.

Thanks,
Rog

  • Hi Rog,

It'll probably be putting quotation marks around any field which has a comma in it.  This is often a bit frustrating for addresses.  In the past, I've done a bit of post import clean-up via SQL.

  • Hi Graeme,

Hope you're well. Yes - the test ones I did included commas. Cheers - at least now I know the cause.

  • This is only a guess to the cause.

My guess is that in one of your street1 fields, and it could be in any row, you have a comma “,”. Wherever you are getting the data is seeing this and converting your CSV into what is really a quote comma “,” separated file to “protect” that comma in your data.

I could be completely wrong. But is worth a hard look at your source data.
