Wireless Access Points

Hello All,

We are in the process of upgrading our very outdated wireless network as we are getting ready to implement Tessitura and N-Scan.

I am interested to know what brand of enterprise grade wireless equipment organizations are using and have had good luck with. We are in the process of getting several quotes and have found a couple of really good dealers/installers in our area but I wondered what most are using.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks,
Daniel Williams

  • We went with Extreme Networks. It is a great console and is relatively easy to use and the AP's have nice trough put and signal. We purchased through NACR now known as Convergence.

We use Aerohive for both our hall and our outdoor venue. Our Motorola MC55 scanners connect very well using Nscan.

  • Daniel,

We installed a Ruckus wireless system in our performing arts center a few weeks ago.  The system has a controller appliance that manages the entire system.  We installed a ZoneDirector 1200 with R700 APs.  I have been using Ruckus for about 6 years and have had great results with their products.  They can handle very high density and are very stable.  Roaming management is excellent.

I personally would not recommend SonicWall SonicPoints for an enterprise solution.  They work OK for a very small number of clients.  We used them for NSCAN for a season.  They worked well for the scanners but not for a large number of clients.  The APs become very unstable with increasing numbers of varies wireless clients.  Definitely not a solution to use for a “Guest” network with hundreds or thousands of users.  I made the mistake of implementing SonicPoints because we already had a SonicWall firewall and was trying to save the cost of buying a wireless controller for the APs.  Lesson learned!! (Let a firewall be a firewall.)

I have heard other speak highly of Ubiquiti Networks.  I spoke with a few organizations at the conference that were using them and were satisfied.  I do not have any direct experience with Ubiquiti.  They would be lower cost tier than Ruckus.

I would also take a look at Cisco/Meraki if budget allows..
