Printing accents on tickets...../printer driver settings

I know this has been asked and answered before but I'm still having problems with this.  A great suggestion is that you change the printer properties to use "Multilingual - Latin 1(850)" in the font Selection tab.  I'm having problems with being able to set this property - it appears that even though this is set on the printer server, the user is locked into a default setting of "US (ANSI) (1252)" and is unable to change this without being given network administration rights.

Has anyone else seen and (hopefully) overcome this and would be prepared to share their solution?

I'm not sure it's relevant but this is for a new Lemur BOCA printer.

Thanks, Martin

  • Martin,

Check and see if using a different font on the ticket design lets you print the accents (try font 13, as it has a fairly extensive set).

  • JD - thanks for the suggestion but I've tried all of the fonts available in Ticket Design - a laborious task!  However, Font 13 is the closest I get but “á” prints as “Ó”.

Not sure if it's Windows Vista that's the issue here.  If I log on as a network administrator i can select "Multilingual - Latin 1(850)" but a normal user cannot change the setting.  the setting is lost of the user has their rights downgraded from administrator to just user.

  • Martin,

We experience this problem all the time as well.  We found that there is a work around (why it works, I have no idea.)  By starting at the Character Map where the character code is a hexadecimal number, we convert it to a decimal, add a leading zero (if it is not four numbers) and use that number for the special character.  We find that on the screen it looks funny but when we print it prints correctly.  We used this technique for our upcoming concert with Renée Fleming.  On the screen it looks like a little box but it prints the acute accented e correctly.  Try typing in code 0160 for your acute accented a and let me know if this same system works for you as it does for us.  Remember on the screen it will look different.

    Good luck,
