PDF Report/Doc Saving and Opening Issues

Hi all, we are having some PDF report/doc saving and opening issues from Tessitura on and off, and it happens randomly on different workstations – sometimes users can’t save report as PDF and other times they can’t open PDF document from the Research>Documents screen. So far we have been applying the solution of installing a ‘Sybase DataWindow PS’ PDF Printer. But it’s a kind of hit and miss solution. Sometimes it works and other times it does not. Does any of you have any alternate/permanent solution for this? Thanks for any help.

  • This is from the forums…

    1. Download the latest version of gs***w32.exe from

    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?

    group_id=1897&package_id=108733;  At the time of this writing that is version

    gs861w32.exe, but any version after 8.60 should work.

    2. Install on Windows Vista/XP;

    3. Copy the existing c:\pbvm\gs folder to a backup location;

    4. Delete the contents of the c:\pbvm\gs folder;

    5. Copy the contents of c:\program files\gs to c:\pbvm\gs;

    6. Rename the gs8.60 folder to "gs7.05";

    7. Go into Control Panel/Printers;

    8. Delete the Sybase Datawindow PS printer, if it exists (most likely it will

    not);

    9. Right-click the printers window and click on Add Printer...

    10. Click on Add Local Printer;

    11. Select "Use an existing port", and change it to "FILE: (Print to File)",

    and click Next;

    12. Click "Have Disk..." and enter "c:\pbvm\gs\gs7.05\lib" under "Copy

    manufacturer's

    files from:", and click OK;

    13. Select "Ghostscript PDF" in the Printers list and click Next;

    14. Enter "Sybase Datawindow PS" for the printer name; it does not need

    to be set as

    the default printer;

    15. Click Finish when successful installation is indicated.

    You should now be able to save the report as PDF.

    Hope that helps!

  • Thanks again Douglas. We tried this too. But still one user can’t open PDF from Research>Documents screen though she can open other word docs from the same screen. When she clicks on any PDF document from this screen nothing happens. But she can save report as PDF from Reports and Utilities screen. Has anybody faced this problem before? Any guidance will be highly appreciated. May be we have been missing something very silly.

    As always thanks for any help.

  • Mo,

    Silly question but have you reinstalled Acrobat reader or done a repair on the installation under her profile?

    Thanks

    Subject: [Tessitura Technical Forum] PDF Report/Doc Saving and Opening Issues

    Hi all, we are having some PDF report/doc saving and opening issues from Tessitura on and off, and it happens randomly on different workstations – sometimes users can’t save report as PDF and other times they can’t open PDF document from the Research>Documents screen. So far we have been applying the solution of installing a ‘Sybase DataWindow PS’ PDF Printer. But it’s a kind of hit and miss solution. Sometimes it works and other times it does not. Does any of you have any alternate/permanent solution for this? Thanks for any help.

  • Thanks all. Finally we could fix it. Things had gotten a little bit complicated because of some domain policy.

    Thanks Douglas. I did the re-installation but the later part a repair on the installation under her profile – didn’t quite get it – did you mean windows profile? If you could explain a little bit!

    Mo,

    Silly question but have you reinstalled Acrobat reader or done a repair on the installation under her profile?

    Thanks

    Thanks again Douglas.

    This is from the forums…

    1. Download the latest version of gs***w32.exe from

    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?

    group_id=1897&package_id=108733;  At the time of this writing that is version

    gs861w32.exe, but any version after 8.60 should work.

    2. Install on Windows Vista/XP;

    3. Copy the existing c:\pbvm\gs folder to a backup location;

    4. Delete the contents of the c:\pbvm\gs folder;

    5. Copy the contents of c:\program files\gs to c:\pbvm\gs;

    6. Rename the gs8.60 folder to "gs7.05";

    7. Go into Control Panel/Printers;

    8. Delete the Sybase Datawindow PS printer, if it exists (most likely it will

    not);

    9. Right-click the printers window and click on Add Printer...

    10. Click on Add Local Printer;

    11. Select "Use an existing port", and change it to "FILE: (Print to File)",

    and click Next;

    12. Click "Have Disk..." and enter "c:\pbvm\gs\gs7.05\lib" under "Copy

    manufacturer's

    files from:", and click OK;

    13. Select "Ghostscript PDF" in the Printers list and click Next;

    14. Enter "Sybase Datawindow PS" for the printer name; it does not need

    to be set as

    the default printer;

    15. Click Finish when successful installation is indicated.

    You should now be able to save the report as PDF.

    Hope that helps!
