Report server pdf generator

Our artistic director just got a fancy new phone, and for some reason the daily reports that get sent to his email don't function correctly when he opens them on the phone.  The pdf will open and show all of the grid lines of the report, but none of the data.  When I run the exact same report manually in Tessitura, save it as a pdf and then email it from my computer it appears correctly with all of the data.  After having gone round and round with the phone company, we have determined that whatever is generating the pdfs on the report server is older and somehow not compatible with the pdf reader on the phone.

So my question for the ever knowledgeable people of the forum- How would I update the pdf generator on the report server?

Thanks for any help you can offer on this!

  • OK.  I want to preface the following suggestions with the fact that I have not tried it and before you do anything like this in your production environment you should test it fully in your test environment.

Now that I have said that.  The current PBVM folder contains ghostscript version 7.05.  This is used to do the conversion to PDF from the postscript output that the postscript printer driver provides.  You could try updating to the latest version of ghostscript (which is 8.64) and see if that solves your problem.  Ghostscript is available from http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/.  Like I said earlier, definately try this in your test environment first and test it out fully before you consider doing it in your live environment although it can easily be switched back if you backup your PBVM folder first.

Let me know how it goes if you try it.

  • We tried this and after successfully testing everything we applied the change to our live system.

While it did not hurt the report server or anythign else, it sadly did not fix the problem of the reports being viewed on the phone.

    Thanks for the suggestion though!
