Resizing a group in Infomaker

If there a way in Infomaker to dynamically shrink the height of a group?

Right now I have a report in which, depending on a certain parameter, all the info in one group is invisible. I've got the visibility working the way I want. I also set the height of each of the invisible objects to be 0 based on the same criteria. I also set that group to Autosize Height. But when I preview the report, I still see the giant blank space for the invisible items at full height.

I've tried various combinations of slide up, and other settings that seem like should be somehow get me what I intended, but I haven't managed to get the right combination (if there is one) to shrink the space taken up by my invisible group. So I decided to stop trying random combinations, probably repeating myself with wrongness, and ask ye who know better than I how to slay the infomaker beast.

  • It’s not immediately apparent, but you need to set the height of the group band to ‘0’.  Essentially close the group band.  IM will expand the band to the correct height when the objects should be visible, but will keep the height at ‘0’ when they shouldn’t be visible.

A band (detail or group) will never shrink below the height it has been set in the datawindow, but it will expand as needed.

  • Now the trick is to remember that there are “hidden” fields in the group band when you come back six months later with a new edit/revision!
