I know it's not a Tess thing, but does anyone own their own captioning equipment? What kind? What software? Are you happy with it?
We've developed a couple of systems over the years, utilizing LED screens. This year we wrote a new one to be used with LCD screens. So far we're happy with it, but this will be our first season and we expect the users to give more feedback as they begin to use the system during live performances. We are also making the code public as soon as we have a release. It is written in Ruby On Rails.
Cool, let me know when you release. We’re paying about $1500 a performance to caption, sometimes for a single constituent. We do get grant money to cover expenses, but it would be nice to have any time.
