Security Settings Overhaul

I would like to embark on a major security settings overhaul - everything from creating new user groups to deciding who has access to which reports/areas etc.

Has anyone recently taken on this sort of project and if so, would you be willing to share your project plan with me? Our security groups were created before we went live in 04 and just don't seem to make much sense anymore. I also wasn't a part of setting up our original user groups and security levels back when we went live, so am not sure where to even start or what considerations I should look at.

Any info that you'd be willing to share would be appreciated!

  • Hi Michele,

I did a similar thing here back in 2012.  I don't really have a project plan to share with you, but I essentially spent a lot of time with the security group documentation and then created a matrix and started from scratch to build our new security groups.  I did all of this in test and then went through common business critical scenarios to ensure I wasn't crippling anyone's ability to do their jobs before pushing it live.  I also phased rolling the groups out so that I had time to react if there were any major issues.

I'm happy to send through the spreadsheet I used that has all of the security objects (as of v10) if you think that will help?  Also happy to jump on a call if you want to talk through it at all.

    Thanks,
    Rathi

  • Hi!

I've just started on a similar overhaul. We're taking a step back and re-looking at control groups, user groups, etc as a result of our rapidly expanding consortium. To add complexity, we do shared ticketing between several of the consortium organizations (but not all), and some (but not all) are resident companies who use one or more facilities.

I'd love a look at any spreadsheets people are willing to share - or to hear any tips, cautions, or words of inspiration you might have.

    Many thanks,
