No data in SSRS report in client

Hi everyone,

Happy Friday!

...or it was, until I hit this problem in SSRS.  I have just hooked up an SSRS URL report to our Test Client in Test Report Set-Up, given myself permissions in Test Security, and am running it in Test.  It generates without errors and with the correct SSRS template (I can see my title, headers, time stamps, and sorting functionality) but no data!

When I run the stored proc in SSMS, it generates data for these parameters. When I preview the report in SSRS, it generates data for these parameters. And when I preview the report in Report Server, it generates data for these parameters!

I have granted execute permissions to impusers. And I have given my user group permission to run the report (obviously, I guess, since I can run it in Reports & Utilities).

I would be worried that my URL is wrong, but wouldn't that be screwing with the report template, too? I would also be worried about my data source set-up in Report Manager, but wouldn't that throw an error? Or at least affect the version I can view in Report Viewer?

What am I forgetting??

Thank you for any suggestions!

    Hi Frannie,

Have you set Execute permissions on the procedure that runs the report? In Report Manager there is also security which I think you are referring to below. And in the Security app you need to grant permissions to the report also.

Also, sometimes I have to Exit Tessitura (not re-login) when I make changes in reports so I can see the changes.

    Hi Gloria,

Thanks for the tip! I had not done this. So I did, and along the way discovered that I had the report connected to the wrong data source in Report Manager (correct connection string in that incorrect data source, though, so I didn't catch it during preview in Report Viewer). I corrected this and built and deployed. No errors, and I can preview successfully in Report Viewer online as well as inside SSRS.

but still no data in the client.

Is there another step I'm missing?

    Thanks so much,

    frannie

Have you tried to build and deploy the report again? And I would verify the data source in Visual Studio before doing that.

  • Again, thank you!

I granted execute permissions for impusers in SSRS.

I associated the report to my user group (SysAdmin) in the client.

I didn't know about the security settings section in Report Manager, but I found it and made the settings for this report match those of a functional report in our Live environment (required I add one role).

Fully exited the client and relogged in and ran the report - and still no data!

This may have to wait until next week...
