Saving Reports to Excel - .xlsx vs .xls

Does anyone know if it's possible to change the version of Excel that reports save as? (I.e. so that it's a one step process to have it as an .xlsx file)

When we save a report to Excel it saves in the 97-2003 .xls format. It would save steps and make certain users thrilled if it were possible to save it as a newer version. I do understand the reasons for it defaulting to the oldest possible, for compatibility.

Thanks!

  • I ask staff to save reports as Comma Separated Text (which is actually.csv) then they can go straight into the document (no Protected View!), make cosmetic changes as needed then save as .xlsx.

One idea is that users can continue to save using the same .csv file over and over as long as it is closed so you don't wind up with hundreds of them on the network or PC

Still an added step involved but has cut frustration by more than half.
