I'm looking for some ideas on how you handle custom report writing in your organization as well as what you think are the pros and cons of your chosen model. So, for example, does 1 person in IT handle all custom reporting needs or do you have a power user in each department that can write reports, but use IT to vet them and move them into the Production system? Or something else entirely?
We're tossing around ideas and trying to balance what we expect to be a big desire for more custom reporting quickly vs. the security concerns around having non-IT folks access the database.
Thanks!

Kjersten,
We have 1 person who is responsible for implementation of our reports. She manages what gets published and when. She also does a large part of the coding herself. However, because she is also our senior system administrator, the reporting work load is more than she can do on her own. We have a partnership agreement with a technical services provider who specializes in providing expert Tessitura report coding services. We have a commitment to a particular number of hours, but we can also scale that up and down as needed. (I don’t know if we’ve ever scaled down. I think that’s the nature of the business.)
I’d be happy to provide more information about the vendor and our relationship off forum if you’d like.
