Sharing BOCA Printer

HI - can anyone advise on the best method of sharing the BOCA printer between two laptops running Tessi at a remote site?

We run the BOCAs on our internal network through ethernet and fixed IP without problems but I need to share the printer between two laptops with a wireless dongle or provided wireless at a remote location.

I set up printer with USB connection and can Test Print from Windows and print from Tessi.

I then shared the printer through a home group. But once it appears on the second laptop I can no longer print a test print from either laptop?

As anyone any advice on the best way to configure the BOCAs or Windows 8 in this scenario or what the issue might be?

Thanks

Justin

  • Hey Justin, long time no speak.

We share a BOCA here on the internal network through Windows Printer Sharing, and can print from both machines without a problem. So it definitely can be done, just not sure what the difference between sharing it on a home network and sharing it on our internal network might have?

Happy to talk you through the config if you want.

  • Hey David,

Great to hear from you, I hope XMAS etc was good and Melbourne is treating you well.

Thanks for contacting me, I haven’t had any luck with the USB sharing, settings seem to drop off once it is shared, so l’ll try with an Ethernet switch – I might get back to you after I have set that up.

    Cheers

    Justin

  • Cool, no worries. As a side note we are using a USB connection with the BOCA on the host machine though... I'm sure there are six billion different ways that it can be configured though so who knows what's going on.

  • Hi Justin,

I assume you've double checked it's still using the text mode drivers?

Can you share it to the other computer without the Homegroup? eg \\machinename\printersharename

You also might need to check the Windows firewall settings to ensure printer sharing is allowed (all the stuff the Homegroup is supposed to take care of)

    Cheers
