Media Capture & Storage

We are currently recording every performance at our 2 major halls here at 92Y. A typical 90 to 120 minute performance generate a 120-180 gByte Prores file as well as an H.264 version for web presentation. On average, we are  producing about 1.5 terabytes of multimedia data per week.

We have no problem with short term storage but have not made up our minds about long term archival storage of these digital files. We are very interested in finding out what other performance centers are doing to preserve their digital archives.

I recently attended a Museum Computer Network conference and the topic of digitization of artifacts and artwork was a fairly major topic (and the storage of those images).  For some museums or science centers this could mean millions and millions of images.

Perhaps some of the museums in the Network could comment on their storage strategies?
