Interactive Video Displays

Has anyone done anything with interactive video displays that they would be willing to share.  We are in the process of building a new building and "they" would like interactive video displays where users could select different videos about our theatre's history and current productions.

Has anyone done anything with touch screens?  Do they hold up to use?

Any recommendations on things not to do?

Any advice would be great!

Thanks, Dean

We have a hands-on museum here, with several displays that use interactive touch screens.  From 1998-2007 we used CRT touch screens and they seemed to hold up to usage fine, lasting about 5 years.  Two years ago, we updated all of those CRT touch screen monitors to flat panel touch screens.  In our scenario, the touch screens are enclosed in an aluminum casing (in order to hide wires), which is then mounted on a bracket.  We are finding this year, that the aluminum casing appears to be "trapping" more heat than expected, and half-a-dozen monitors have suddenly failed in the last few months, after just 2 years of use.  Usage-wise, the touch screens seem to hold up fine, but I would caution that if you enclose them in a casing as we have done, that you make sure the heat is dissipated adequately.  We are making changes such as drilling holes in the casing and installing small fans.
