Box Office Manager Job Description needed

Hi Everyone -  My name is Natalia Chavez and I am the Tessitura Systems Administrator at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

We are currently in the implementation phase and are excited to be new members of the Tessitura Network!

Can anyone share a Box Office Manager Job description or a "day in life" example for a Tessitura Box Office Manager? We are doing some reorganization as we approach our go live date and I would appreciate any input regarding Box Office Manager duties and how you have found they've changed or remained the same after implementing Tessitura.

Thank you!

  • Hello, and welcome!

You might check the job board forum.  There are numerous job descriptions there and Box Office Manager is a fairly common posting.  I would send ours, but it is in need of an update too! :)

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi Natalia,

Welcome! I'm the box office manager at Florida Studio Theatre and our position has kind of shifted a lot in the past few years I've experienced two very different jobs as the structures changed.

One option is to have your Box Office Manager be basically the head sales person. They spend most of their time working directly with patrons and are the go to person when there is a difficult or confusing order. This seems to work well when building and maintenance needs are minimal or handled by other departments. The box office manager could still build and do some maintanance, but that takes time and it is difficult to get major projects done while answering phones.

The second option which we have shifted to makes the box office manager more of an administrative position. I spend a shift or two in th box office each week, but a majority of my time is spent in the administrative offices building, maintaining, and teaching tessitura to front-end users. I oversee a team of assistant managers who maintain the sales and I can focus on the issues in tessitura. We founf that this is a necessary position if you have extensive and complex packages, events, and especially if you plan on using dynamic pricing or making alterations to the performance schedule on a regular basis.

I am happy to give you any more information on how FST has used me, Feel free to email me directly at jpeters@floridastudiotheatre.org or just reply here on the forum.

  • Hi Joshua,
