Odd gaps in Running Sum Line Charts

Hi all,

Tess newbie here! I'm trying to create some line charts that compare this vs. last year's running sum of admissions for three categories: our Galleries, our Films, and both together as Total Admissions.

The Galleries and Film charts look fine, but for some reason when I generate the same chart for Total Admissions, there is a gap in the line between fiscal weeks 26 and 29. It only appears once I've included the season filter 2023-24 Film Series.

I've tried adding "TRUE" to the formula as suggested in previous forum posts with this issue, but it doesn't change the line. Does anyone have any ideas why this gap might be occurring?

Thank you!

  • Thanks for reaching out.

NB/ that this isn't a continuous timeline - i.e. we are not graphing each day regardless of data.  You can do that but it can also overload your dashboard and if that happens ask me how to fix it because it's a bit fiddly.

The gap. In the first 2 graphs both curves have data on all X axis points. You'll notice though that in #3 that the 2023 curve has data on day 28 that 2024 doesn't.  That means that it's leave a gap from 26-29 so as not to give you the wrong impression that data was gathered there.

You can fill those points in using these guidelines

  • Hi Heath, thank you so much for the fix! A brief followup-- do you know if it's at all possible to display missing values at 0 without the infinite line going to the right (after the current data ends)? I initially switched the x-axis to fiscal weeks instead of days in date because I was attempting to eliminate that infinite line. I understand if this isn't possible, though.
