Case Sensitivity in Analytics

Hi All,

Forgive me if this is a super pedestrian question, but is there a way to configure a widget/field in Analytics so that is is not case sensitive? I'm trying to do some basic analysis of sales by city, and because most of our addresses are entered by the patrons themselves on our website, I've got separate rows of data for 'Madison,' 'MADISON,' and 'madison,' which is making it tough to do any true calculations. Anyone have a simple solution to this, or is this just a limitation of Sisense?

Thanks!

Lauren

  • Hi Lauren,

I saw an article recently that started with:

If you want to start a war, just enter into a room crowded with IT people and ask, “should a programming language be case-sensitive or not?”. Then, enjoy the popcorn you wisely brought with you...

Most analytical tools are case sensitive, Tessitura Analytics (and Sisense) included. We want it both ways... to see proper casing of display values in analysis rather than seeing everything in all lower or upper case. And group/count them as the same value. My recommendation is to drill into the Constituent IDs of the mis-cased cities, and then correct them in Tessitura.
